You mean like what's-her-face who killed her 5 children?
They should be treated like any other criminal. I don't care if they get psychiatric help, but when they're found to be "cured", they should be placed in prison just like anyone else who's committed a crime! They shouldn't be released. I think that the insanity plea is over-used.

MENTALLY ILL PERSONS HAVE MILLIONS OF PROBLEM EACH PERSON HAS A DEGREE OF DIFF PROBLEMS CANT JUDGE THIS AS DONT KNOW THE HISTORY OF THE PERSON BUT A HORRIFIC CRIME IS DEFINED AS A DEATH OR HAS DISABLED SOMEONE ALL THE FACTORS NEED TO BE ON BOARD TO KNOW THE REASONS AND NO JUDGE OR COURT CAN MAKE A JUDGMENT WITHOUT THE FACTS HOPE THE BEST FOR ALL MENTALLY ILL BUT NOT ALL CAN BE HELPED SAD AS IT IS EVEN THE HARMLESS ONES CAN CHANGE AS OUR BODYS GET OLDER THAY DONT GET WISER THEY GET WORSE GOOD LUCK ON THIS ONE JFB

I think they should be guilty but insane and with a stipulation that if they are "cured" or no longer insane ...they should finish out their life in a jail or some sort of facility ...
what's to say they won't revert back to their old ways ??
it isn't fair for some unsuspecting family to have to live with the mentally ill persons choices and actions ... if they are not capable of civilian life .. they should be where they can't hurt anyone

The question is on whether the person has the capability to understand/control what they did. Mental illness itself is not necessarily a mitigating factor.
Clearly they need to be removed from society for punishment or treatment (whichever is appropriate) and to protect other people.
