Yes, you will very likely have conflicts. You should only install ONE antivirus package on your computer.
Not only are you extremely likely to have conflicts between the two, all antivirus software will cause you system to slow down. This is common. On a modern system with modern antivirus software, the penalty is minimal but trying to run multiple packages will significantly slow your system down. This is because the way that antivirus software operates it is seen as virus-like activity by competing antivirus software. Installing Norton and McAfee on a computer simultaneously will often result in a machine that won't work at all. It will boot up, but will run so slowly that it's unusable. Other antivirus software is likely to cause similar problems.
Some antivirus software won't even install if there is another antivirus package installed. The most recent versions of the corporate edition of McAfee will uninstall other antivirus software. If you don't allow it to uninstall the other software, the installation will quit.

I don't think so. I had both on my computer and they worked fine. I still had a virus though (my norton had expired), so I downloaded avast. It found two viruses that AVG did not.
Avast WILL conflict with Norton. I uninstalled Norton since I didn't want to pay to renew it.

Don't worry: conflicts will not happen provided that the "real time protection" of one of both programs is disabled.
Take it from me: Norton is junk and AVG is simply not a good freeware AV.
I would get rid of both, if I were you.
AntiVir is simply the best free AV around:

Also make sure you are protected by a decent firewall: ZoneAlarm is one of the best.

Yes this sure conflict, you can't install more than one antivirus program in one computer, because the firewall is conflict. not only norton or AVG, all antivirus programs is conflict with one computer like mccafee or kaspersky, so you may install one antivirus,
and i recommend to install Norton, because is awesome program.
and if you want to install AVG go to this link:
http://free.grisoft.com OR http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10342876.html
And Norton free trial:

You can install as many antivirus programs on your computer as you want. Just don't run them at the same time. If you have two (or more) AV programs doing a live scan they will detect each other and treat each other as a virus. In trying to remove the "virus" the programs go into an endless loop which eventually causes a computer to crash.
Remember: install as many as you want but DON'T run more than one at a time.

You should NEVER run multiple anti-virus programs. They WILL conflict...
That said, remove ALL that you have installed and try ONE of the following:
1) AVG FREE (download at: http://free.grisoft.com/ )
(This may be the one you are referring to... It is BETTER than Norton!)
2) 1 year free trial myetrust from CA (download at: http://tinyurl.com/cqjb2 )
Remember: ONLY USE ONE AV PROGRAM!
Good luck!

For the most part it is not good practise to use 2 "real-time" anti-virus solution. However, in most cases it is perfectly O.K. to use a second "on demand" only virus scanner. A 100% free and legitimate combination that works well for many is a combination is Avast 4 Home Edition and BitDefender 8 Free Edition.
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
http://www.bitdefender.com/PRODUCT-14-en--BitDefender-8-Free-Edition.html
Use Avast as your real-time solution for web, e-mail, IM, P2P, etc. protection. BitDefender which has better virus detection rates then Avast, can then be used for your regular system scans as needed. To conserve system resources, you can go into services.msc, disable and stop the 2 BitDefender services there and re-enable these when necessary for a complete system scan.

There should not be any problem with Norton and AVG. I have run them both with no problem under Windows XP.

Anti Virus programs will often conflict with each other but not always. Even if you do mange to get them to run concurrently, you are likely to see one report the others quarantine area as infected.
