I majored in math in college. All my professors said the hard part about math is the English. If you cant read it properly then you cant do the problems. Another part is people dont want to learn the postulates and theoroms needed to solve the problems.

This is a wonderful question. I think part of the reason is that mathematics is highly abstract. You have to get a feel for what symbols represent when they are used in expressions and what mathematical expressions, equations, etc. actually *mean*. This takes experience. And unfortunately, I see math books and classes where students are just forced to do mindless symbol pushing without any effort put into understanding what it's good for. No wonder they find it painful and pointless.
And it's too bad most people never see any mathematics beyond algebra. Algebra is just a bunch of rules for manipulating symbols. It's like learning shorthand. Once you learn it then you can do work with it more quickly and easily. The trouble is, most people never get to the point where it can actually be useful.
More people are working toward helping students truly understand mathematical reasoning these days and the best way to do that is through use of ordinary language and logical reasoning instead of mindless symbol pushing.

In addition to one of the above response, it is the the impression/opinions floating around about the subject. You may hear more often people expressing opinions like - "Math is hard" or "I hate math" or "It is only for genius" . The children watch and imitate the parents and other siblings. When they hear this types of statements, some children subconsciously have developed aversion to the subject and try to avoid the subject. The fundamentals are very necessary, but could prove boring to little kids stepping into KG. Math needs to be introduced in a way so it is fun to learn. Definitely, not all kids get bored, that is why we have brilliant mathematicians and some great minds in applied fields which heavily depend on mathematics.
