The Beatles. They were innovative and cute as heck. Their harmonies were incredible and the lyrics they wrote, both stoned and sober were fabulous. Lennon and McCartney were an unbeatable team.

That's a tough question, but I think I will take Led Zeppelin since you asked for the best band. As a unit, they were the best. Black Sabbath was really awesome too, so they would in second. Jimi Hendrix Experience was awesome too, but mostly that was because of Hendrix himself. Led Zeppelin recorded nearly 40 classic songs before 1975 and that's just amazing. They were really a great band. I know a lot of people will want to say the Stones or the Beatles, but they pale in my mind to LZ as a band. Other notables would be CCR, the Who, the Eagles, The Guess Who/BTO, Thin Lizzy, Moody Blues, ZZ Top (back when they were cool, before they became super cool, before they became too old), Cream (too short a career), Emerson Lake and Palmer, etc. Over all these, Led Zeppelin rules.

well i was born after 1975 but my dad has always been a big music fan and he put me onto a lot of oldies but goodies.
one of my 2 fave groups in the Whole Wide World is Led Zeppelin. there's just no comparison. after them, i'd say The Animals (Eric Burden, what a voice), The Rolling Stones, Cream, Janis Joplin, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Joe Cocker, John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, Carol King, Credence Clearwater Revival, Muddy Waters (a legend), Aretha Franklin ....... the list goes on :)

Yes, Close to the Edge was an Incredible album. They have a sound all their own. Things have changed since 1975, but this is one group I love hearing and never get tired of.

My favorite... hmm... okay, Jefferson Airplane, Fleetwood Mac or Pink Floyd.
I like the Who, and the Stones, but Grace Slick's voice on White Rabbit..... You can't beat that. (Stevie Nicks is great too, but she can't do it quite like Grace...)
...tdang424, did you missunderstand the question? Most of the members of Green Day were BORN in the early 1970's....
