I had a Dell DJ that I liked a lot, and the newer models are compatible with the Plays For Sure subscription services (meaning you pay a certain amount of money per month and get legal, unlimited access to a large online library of music)
Right now I use a smaller Sandisk Sansa. It's not a hard drive player and doesn't hold much, but it's also compatible with the technology above, and gets pretty good battery life.
My sister has one of the Philips players referenced above, it too is compatible with this technology and from what I've heard works rather well ;)

Sandisk, Creative, IRiver, Gigabeat, Lexar. Thats just a few of them. The least expensive is the Lexar. If you already own a SD card, the player will only cost you $35. It will hold up to a 2G SD card.

Get the Philips 30gb Jukebox player, it is great! my brother has one and it works just as good as an iPod(except the philips player comes with a microphone and am/fm radio). I have an iPod and I love it!!
Just get an iPod or a philips 30gb jukbox player ;)

We love our Creative Labs Zen Microphoto.
Bigger bang for the buck over the Ipods.

try creative or sony. if you dont want a video or any of them fancy stuff, might as well buy one from sony. they're pretty good. and the battery can last for quite some time.
