What compells people to join in?

i USED TO KNOW THE PERSON WHO GOT IT STARTED. ANY WAY IT WAS ALSO CALLED THE SEVENTH INNING STRETCH. EVERYONE WOULD GET UP AND STREATCH THEIR ARMS AND LEGS. IT THEN TURNED INTO THE WAVE.
IT CAUGHT ON VERY FAST AND EVERYONE IS NOW INVOLVED.

i think because outspoken people in the section tell them ''lets make a wave everybody'' then he an the crowd start doing it. But during a regular game sections communicate to each other an start a new wave (thats how it start)

It started in San Diego at a Padres game in the early 80's. They were so bad then, that the people got bored and had to find something to amuse themselves with.
