If it is a front loading machine - they can get pretty stinky because they are so airtight. My appliance repair person told me to run an empty load with a cup or two of vinegar. It really does the trick and keeps the machine fresh for a long time. Also, he told me to make sure to use laundry detergent designed for high efficiency machine (it has the "he" symbol on the bottle or box.) Many front loaders don't like regular detergent as it builds up in the machine.

You may take it to the local recycling center, if your community has one. If you buy a new washer and have it delivered most places will haul away your old washer, often at no extra charge.
There are still a few used furniture stores that will buy and refurbish washers in good condition, but it is likely you will have to get it there.
Finally, you could always place an add in the paper. That works around here sometimes, but we have a lot of poverty and used is all some people can afford. If you live somewhere wealthy and posh it probably won't work.
Good luck!

Run a cycle with bleach or vinegar or coffee....yes coffee. Lol!! A cat had peed on one of my cloth rugs on our porch and the smell was just horrible. I tried everything to get it out, but no luck. I remembered that you smell coffee to clear your nose out when you smell candles at the shop so the scents don't mix, so I figured what the heck, maybe it will work on material. I soaked the rug in super hot water and about a cup of ground coffee for a couple of hours then washed in in the washer with regular detergent and the smell was TOTALLY gone. Of course after that, you would have to use bleach or vinegar just to make sure the coffee doesn't stain the tub. Good luck hon!!!!

I had this problem and read somewhere that if you put a tube of toothpaste in the water and just run it through the wash cycle this usually does the trick. I buy cheap toothpaste and do this every couple of weeks.
