Andres Escobar, of Columbia, was shot in a night club in Colombia after scoring an own-goal in a match against the United States in USA 94. Columbia lost the game, and because of that did not advance to the second round.

I believe you are referring to Escobar form Columbia who was shot after he scored an own goal vs. the US in 94...I heard he was shot by big time mobsters from Columbia who had alot of money riding on that game.
