My washing machine overflows no matter which setting I put it on.....it just keeps filling and filling until I manually shut it off. What is wrong? Which part needs to be replaced? Is it fixable? I really hope I don't need to buy a new washing machine! Please help!!

Your limit switch is out. It controls when the water shuts off. It can be replaced if you can find the part. Or try this first. There's an airline that goes from the bottom of the tub to the limit switch. Blow threw the line because it may be clogged. My washer was doing the same thing and we just blew threw the line and now it works great. The air lines can become clogged and its cheaper than finding and buying a new switch.

The float valve is stuck.

Open the toilet tank. See that float that rises with the water and shuts the water off? Same thing in your washer.

If the float is stuck in the down position, the machine doesn't know what the water level is.

Replace or repair it.

My washing machine did, that and we just got the tube thing that connects to the wall replaced. Later on it stopped working all together so we ended up getting a new one.

I had that problem before, and had to fix the button that the door hits against when it closes. I'm not sure why that worked for me, but it did. It's an old Maytag, probably from the late 70's.

it has a piece in it that tells it to shut off at a certain level and that device must be broken
