Here, my friend, you have introduced one of the many examples of how poorly we educate in the United States.

After they read this. =)
Sometimes, people think that just because something is native to them, they don't have to study about it anymore. What for, right? You've had that knowledge since your first week in your mother's womb!
Yeah, english may be native to you Americans. So you now think that you can go on typing away on your keyboard, spelling things the way you hear them. One fact of life remains though: You can never be good on something without studying about it first. You can't walk without learning how to crawl first, and you can't go to college without going through high school first.
To some, it may seem absurd to be studying about your own language since you've been using it all your life. But don't it seem logical that you study your culture, your language, your country and yourself before jumping to bigger things and things well outside the borders of your territory? I am no grammatical or spelling god of some sort, but believe me, it will do you good to study these things. Americans are very lucky because you get opportunities that people of other countries don't. Don't take it for granted. Some people will kill to be in that position. And I just did a few minutes ago, lolz.

I think what we have here is what we teachers continue to believe - the English language is the most difficult to speak because of the numerous exceptions to the rules. Additionally, the influx of cultures, sub-cultures and the extremely creative who provide their own source of venacular, idioms and flavored figures of speech. Once combined, turned over, mixed and rolled out - we tend to forget what the original even tasted like. As I teach English, I still find myself learning everyday. They didn't teach me everything in college....Thanks for all your input.
