there are three main elements
prosody(method of rhymimg)
ryhme, alleration, and assonace (ryhming schemes)
then the poetic form( the lines, stanzas)

Poetry is a masquerade of words that temporarily deceives the heart and mind, and thereby manages to change the life of their owner. Rhyme, meter, alliteration, assonance, onomatopoeia, metaphor, simile, and anything else you can think of are fair game as elements.
