No. She should be able to sit up first... sounds like she is progressing perfectly. If you ever have concerns, just talk with your doctor... you are taking her in for her shots regularly, right? Just ask them the next time you go in (for her 6 month shots)

I have a 8 month daughter myself and she started sitting up on her own when she was about 4 1/2 to 5 months old and didn't start crawling till she was about 5 1/2 to 6 months old. It's normal for babies to start sitting up and holding her bottle before crawling. Don't worry your baby is right where he/she should be.

It's quite normal! Each baby is different and various activities and abilities are usually categorized within a range of ages. Unless your baby is well outside the "normal" range there is nothing to worry about. For example, although walking is typical between 9 and 14 months, anything between 6 and 18 months is within acceptable norms.

Most babies will sit up and hold their bottle before they start to crawl. A few babies will never crawl in the normal sense. My sister rolled starting at about 5 months and went straight to walking at about 12 months. She rolled everywhere, even down a flight of stains one time -- one step at a time -- with no ill effects.

Not much is "normal" when it comes to babies. What your baby does development-wise is usually fine. Some babies do things earlier than others. However, sitting up does come first. The back muscles are developing fast and they have to be able to really work at holding baby up before they can work at crawling, or walking. Your baby might just skip that crawling stage. You might pick up a copy of "What to Expect: the First Year" by Arlene Eisenberg, Heidi Eisenberg Murkoff, Sandee E. Hathaway. The general advice and "what to expect" parts are informative and help put your mind at ease.

No it's normal, and your baby seems to be smart and catches on to things fast. My one year old did the same thing, just wait your baby will be crawling pretty soon too. My one year old started walking when she was 9 1/2 months, and she has done everything early. At the moment I am potty training her, and she has really taken to it no problems so far. Fingers crossed, my other 2 girls didn't start doing things this early, but I guess what they say is true, all babies are different.

Good luck to you and your little one, she will be getting in to everything before you know it.

Normal for her. My twins never crawled. They went straight from sitting to walking. No one will ever be the wiser if she never crawls. THere aren't too many people in the world that crawl.

nope i worked in a daycare and most babies sat up about 5-6 monthes and crawled closer to 7-8 months. you child is just fine. and by the way all children are different in development stages. there is one baby that is 8 monthes and she is pulling up and eating table food and can crawl but cannot sit! all children are different.

I think that your baby is just really smart. I wouldn't worry about it. Do you have carpet in your house? Usually babies don't like crawling on hard surfaces. My sis had 7 babies and when it was just floor they didn't crawl as quickly.

Baby milestones are VERY INDIVIDUAL for all babies. Don't start comparing your baby to other peoples babies. What your baby does is just right for your baby!
My second son walked before he crawled and he's perfectly normal infact he's quite advanced!!
Your pediatrician is a good person to double-check with..
