Plasmids can transfer to new bacterial cells through conjugation (they are double stranded and transfer a single strand to a recipient cell through the bacterial pillus, the single strands in both donor and recipient bacterial cells then synthesise second strands, so both cells have a copy of the plasmid).

Plasmids can be useful, molecular biologists use them all the time, they can confer an advantage to their bacterial hosts by giving them antibiotic resistance etc.

Plasmids do form circles and can replicate on their own.

F plasmids can be incorporated into the host bacteria's chromosomal DNA.

Hope that helps
