Hired, You are open and honest about your past. I could feel confident trusting you with the cash drawer!

I would not disclose this in the interview. Employers are allowed to require a drug test and a physical, but are prohibited from asking specific personal questions involving health, age, and ethnicity during an interview. Some do, but they are in violation of the law and open for legal action.

This is not necessarily appropriate to reveal at interview, but perhaps somewhere in an application. If you note you are revealing it in order to be completely honest with your prospective employer, depending on the job it might even give you an advantage! It shows courage, honesty, and an ability to overcome difficulty and persevere.

Good luck.

Wouldn't hire.
I once supervised a team of workers. One was a "recovering" alcoholic. He caused me more grief than everyone else combined. Eventually I had to fire him when he hit one of the girls with a fork-truck and told her not to fill out an accident form.
NEVER AGAIN!

"Let bygones be bygones", of course I will. If you showed me that you're experienced, and really left alcohol and/or drugs, and tell me how and why do you fit this job and this career, then, of course. I have dark points in my past myself, who doesn't! But the important thing is to be sincere, and learn from our mistakes.
