Yahoo is one of the best free leagues.
They offer live drafts and real time stat tracker during the game.
Yahoo Plus is not free, but is very good, however, terrible prizes for winning the league. They now give out plaques to the winners of the league. In the past they gave out your choice of NFL team jersey.
CBS sports & NFL.com free leagues are ok.
They have nfl analysis giving you information on players each week
Espn leagues are ok -pay leagues a little better. They use to give out t-shirts and trophy to winners. Good before game time information. Open chat on Thursdays durning the season. You can ask the Espn sports associate football questions about your team players. "who to start'
USA Today offer this service for free every Thursday
Fox leagues are ok - they also have a chart each week on who to start and sit
The Sporting News legue is ok, however the pay league is very good. Lots of information and updates on players before game time. Very good information about your team players durning the week. You will get a newsletter on what players to start and sit each week.
All leagues offer live drafts if you join early, except The Sporting News.
If joining a free league, I would go with Yahoo. "The Best" You can always get football information from espn, the sporting news, nfl.com and cbs sports.com
If joining a pay league, I would go with CBS or The Sporting News.
I hope this help

The big ones are Yahoo, Fox Sports, CBS Sportsline and ESPN.
ESPN definitely has the coolest draft room and you can easily have dynasty teams but it's difficult at times signing up and the drafts usually take place in August (you sound eager so I guess you want an early draft).
Fox Sports, like said, crashes quite a bit. They are good for IDP leagues and such but not much else.
CBS Sportsline is good but the stattracker is nothing like YAHOO!
Yahoo is the best because if it wasn't for it, I wouldn't be here. The only problem is how they rank IDPs sometimes but if you are in a competent league there should be no problems. You get a lot out of a little here.

While I do like Yahoo and ESPN, the best fantasy football service is NFL.com
They acknowledge yardage more than Yahoo; they have an easier draft board system than ESPN (it has never crashed on me whenever I have had a draft selection going on); and there are continual updates to the players' scores during the game. These aspects are included in the FREE fantasy football league.
Yahoo offers that, but you need to purchase FF Plus to get automatic updates. ESPN has no team limit, which can actually take away from your fun by overloading with teams that you put together.
There was one year I paid for NFL.com, but I agreed to it since every participant that season would get a free official Super Bowl program (which went more than the actual playing fee).
NFL.com was the first fantasy football website I played on, and it remains the best in my opinion.

I don't see why anyone would use anything other than Yahoo, for the primary reason that it is free. Sure you can pay for the Plus league, or whatever it's called, but why? If you do the free league, everyone has access to the league homepage, you can do the live draft, etc. If the members of the league want to pay for Stat-tracker and the other extras they can. Why pay in more than your entry fee and any other league payments you may have? Anything that any of the fee-based sites offer that Yhaoo doesn't have (and they have more than enough), you can get for free somewhere on the web. Enjoy.

I've always used Yahoo's. It's set up pretty good and easy to use. My computer-illiterate brother can even run his team from Yahoo's site. GO STEELERS!
