I know, there are 276 other people here, all asking the same question with slight variations in words. Tired of all the other attention-hungry writers screaming "Look at me!"? Then skip this. But if you're a too-good-to-be-true angel who happened to be cast away from heaven, I am Lucifer's spoiled granddaughter, and no, I'm not a whore working at that sinful establishment down the block. I am a writer desperate to get her work published gazillions of miles away from her very own country. I come from the Philippines, I am a writer, but considering the colonial mentality imprinted on the asses of my countrymen, I believe that they'd rather read the stuffy encyclopedia that comes from another country, rather than pick my book and help their fellow Filipino. So my slightly-used brain cells pumped the blood out of them to come up with this idea: PUBLISH YOUR WORK IN THE US. Hooray! So now I have a solution and the only problem is how? And I rely on you to help me on that, please. Please.

Getting published is a process, and with your special circumstances, it's going to be important to have good people in your corner.
- Of course you have to start by writing your manuscript. After that, find a good editor, someone honest enough to be straight with you and to help you fix your document and format it for submission. I use www.wordtechs.com and have been very happy with them.
- Next you can either locate an agent or write your own query letters, and follow the publishers' submission guidelines, send off your manuscript and wait to connect with the right person.
Don't skip the editor step, and don't expect it to be an instantaneous thing. Start writing your next book while you wait for acceptance to keep your mind occupied and to keep from worrying.
Best of luck. Writing dreams can come true!

1) Write your book. First time writers need to have the book complete.
2) Write a good 1 page query letter. The letter should reveal why your book is worthy of publication, and a little about you.
3) Find a literary agent. An agent is the official and legitimate way to enter publishing - never contact the publisher directly, it labels you an amateur.
The publishing industry is feminized at the moment, so you being a female writer, from a different country, who has the typical issues of repression and free expression, will be very attractive to them. Google: Kaavya and plagarism. Publishers love that "female overcoming the world" cliche'. Include that in your cover letter.

If you want a really good list of publishers and literary agents then try writers market--I think the web address is writersmarket.com--you can also get the same information in a book by the same title, they publish a new edition every year.(you could find it on Amazon) They give you the name and address of publishers, how to contact them, what types of material they are looking for so you don't waste your time sending your material to people who aren't interested in you genre, and how to submit your material (like whether that certain publisher would rather have a full manuscript, partial, or query letter). Both the book and the website also have tons of extra bonus information on how to get things published. The website has a registration fee of about $30, equivalent to how much the book would cost I think. If you're really serious though, it's worth it. Good Luck!

Self-publishing could be a good option. Do a search online for "self publishing" & sites will pop up.
Here are some book titles that are relevant:
* The Self-Publishing Manual: How to Write, Print, and Sell Your Own Book, 14th Edition by Dan Poynter
* Complete Guide to Self Publishing: Everything You Need to Know to Write, Publish, Promote, and Sell Your Own Book (Self-Publishing 4th Edition) by Tom Ross
* Smart Self-Publishing: An Author's Guide to Producing a Marketable Book, 3rd ed. by Linda G. Salisbury, Jim Salisbury
* Self-Publishing For Dummies by Jason R. Rich
There are lots of free informational resources out there as well. Check the source box for links to articles.
Also, be sure to copyright your work. You can do this at the US Copyright Office. Go to the last link in the source box for Literary Works. The application is fairly simple & the cost is $30 per application (it will rise to $45 by July 1).
Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

It depends, if you write poetry and live in the U.S., you can get recognized as a writer by sending an entry to poeticpower.com/ they also have a short story-essay contest. But if you don't live in the U.S. then try poetry.com. I'm sorry but poetry sights are all I can offer.
