I have been taking prescribed xanex for 7 days and my period is 7 days late. I am concerned about the possibility of a birth defect if I just became pregnant.

you need a pregnancy test, if positive xanax is not recommended during pregnancy.

See a doctor immediately. Usually they say to stop taking prescriptions if you are pregnant or there's a possibility that you will become pregnant. So stop taking the medicine now and call your doctor immediately. If he tells you that you can continue taking the medicine regardless, consult another doctor just in case. Better safe than sorry! Stopping taking Xanex won't kill you, but continuing to take it could kill the potential baby. Get off Yahoo and call your doctor or local hospital now.

First, you should take a pregnancy test to find out if you are pregnant or if your period is late for other reasons. If you are pregnant suspend all medication until you see your OB/GYN.
