I just saw something on TV about milking dairy cows with those vacuum-like suckers that get the milk out of the udders. Do the cows actually enjoy it or does it hurt them?

It does not hurt the cow. If it did the cow would not stand for it and there is NO ONE who can make a cow stand when she don't want to. Without being milked consistently on time they can get mastitis which can kill them. The automatic system is the only one allowed for milk for human consumption in many states.

edited: for the answer below milking does NOT empty the bladder. Although some cows do pee when the machines are put on...milking has nothing to do with the bladder.
Yes they can dry up but they can also DIE. I had a goat die from it once - so yes they CAN die from not being milked. Further I know of a dairy herd taken right before milking - the "experts" and the inhumane society said milking was not a priority - three days later and a state vet order was needed to get them to milk the animals by which time many had mastitis set in.

A heavy milking animal most certainly can die from not being milked or being improperly milked.

If you do not milk a dairy cow their udders become full and are painful so the milking makes them feel better.
They will line up at the barn in the am ready to be milked.
And come in at night whe nit is time to milk again.

It doesn't hurt to milk cows. There bladder fills up and is a relief to get milked. and no they won't die if they are not milked. They will dry up and stop producing.

No it does not hurt them thy must enjoy it or thy wouldn't come back into the barn. If you do not milk them thy can get milk fever or mastitis and die from it so thy have to be milked 2times a day to keep them healthy.

I doubt that it hurts them. I used to go to a farm when I was a little girl and the people who ran the farm LOVED their animals and also used those machines. Plus, if it hurt them, PETA would be all over it.

as long as you don't squeeze too hard. If people didn't milk them they would die. and we would'nt have milk with our cereal! That would be.................. good but not as good as with milk. With those vaccuum suckers, it does'nt really bother them. don't worry I've seen angry cows. And they just stand there really while it is done!so there you go

No- it does not hurt them at all. It is a releif actually. The milkl build up pressure in their **** and they hurt if they are full like that. If it hurt, they wouldn't let their babies eat.
