I have heard that Dojo Loaches can live in cold water with Goldfish. And also, maybe an African Clawed Frog. They're good little things, as long as your Goldfish aren't very small.
BUT, other fish really should not be housed with Goldfish. Not only do they produce a lot of ammonia, they also require coldwater, which you seem to understand. Maybe 2-3 Goldfish and one Loach would work.
There are a few species that are supposed to be able to live with goldfish, but I can't remember what they are. As a rule, it is better to keep goldfish with other Goldfish.
And remember to change your water very frequently, at least once every other week.

Um sorry to burst your bubble but fancy goldfish need 15 gallons each, so a heavily filtered 10 might provide a home for that one goldfish.
If you have a common, a fish that can grow to 2 feet isn't the smartest choice for a 20" long tank.
Bettas will not work, goldfish are best kept with other goldfish, though some breeds of minnow may work, such as the white cloud.
If you get a larger tank, more goldfish will work, but even though you're fish can get by in the 10, I would take the goldfish back to the store, and start planning a tropical tank

Fancy goldfish need at least 10 gallons each minimum so even with your new tank only 1 goldfish will fit in it. If you would like more fish I would suggest getting a 29 or 30 gallon. That way you can get a friend for your goldfish and add maybe a bristlenose pleco or a snail. Don't get a common pleco they like to suck on the slime of a goldfish and will eventually kill it, also don't get a tropical fish like neons or guppies. Goldfish are coldwater fish and have completely different requirements then tropicals. Goldfish get really big too and will eat the small tropicals as soon as they can fit in their mouth. Betta are also a bad idea, they not only are tropicals as well but most don't like having any company and will attack and kill them.
With the right care a goldfish can live over 20 years and atleast 8 inches long, depending on the type they can get even bigger. Have fun with your new goldie friend and if you ever need any help check out http://www.kokosgoldfish.com/ it has a great forum with lots of friendly people.

Every goldfish needs at least ten gallons of water. The tank you are moving him into is just big enough for him alone. If you put more fish in ther you will kill them. The ecosystem isn't big enough.
Bettas are tropical, goldfish are coldwater.
Goldfish also produce a lot of ammonia, most fish cant handle it.
Goldfish generally live with other goldfish. Dojo loaches are also a good tank mates. That is about it.
Your tank is not big enough though. Dojos get to be beg just like goldies. In a small tank you stunt there growth and will kill them. They should live 20-40 years not 2yrs.
Take your goldfish back and get community tropical fish. Then you could could have more then 10 fish.

A betta most likely wouldn't attack the goldfish. That said bettas are tropical fish and prefer warm water. Also a 10 gallon tank is too small for more than one goldfish long term.

For a 10 gallon tank, I would suggest only 2 goldfish. Even then, my two goldfish outgrew the 10 gallon and I had to move them into a 20 gallon. They are only about 8 inches each, but they are still crowded. Other kinds of goldfish can grow really big, if the live that long, so be prepared for that.

For goldfish, I recommend a plecostomus,a snail, a frog, or other goldfish. If you are setting it up as a coldwater tank, DON"T add tropical fish. As for the bettas, you could try adding JUST 1 but keep a close eye on your fish for signs of aggression (such as torn fins exe.) Neons would just be a tasty snack as your goldfish will grow pretty quickly in a 10 gal.

I have mixed many types of fish together, I have had platys, pleco, goldfish, a betta and tetras in an aquarium - the only problem I had was that when the platys had babies (which happened all the time...livebearers multiply like crazy!) the goldfish would eat them. If you have large goldfish, make sure the other fish you put in with them aren't big enough to fit in their mouth.

Neon tetras and mollies will do well with goldfish. Bettas tend to get aggressive around other fish. If the tank is big and not very populated, they will be okay (so long as the other fish is not another betta), but if it gets even the slightest bit crowded, they will turn and start nipping fins and such.

It is not good to mix tropicals with goldfish. Black Moores are a type of goldfish and will do well. Goldfish create excessive ammonia and it';s not good for tropicals. And a betta willattack any other fish, especiallyones with long fins. Bettas do best in small bowls, singly.
