I cannot answer your question directly. however I will share my experience. I was on Lipitor for several years and I did not like the side effects.
I stopped taking Lipitor and started taking Niacin which is one of the B vitamins.
Within a month or 3 my cholesterol and triglycerides were both in the normal range. I have been on Niacin for about 3 years now and it is still keeping every thing under control.
Should you decide to follow my route there are a couple of things to be aware of.
1. Only the straight Niacin does the job. Do not use Niacinamid, no flush Niacin or slow release Niacin.
2. Some people cannot take Niacin, they have an allergic reaction to it.
3. Niacin has a side effect that many people dislike, it causes a flush that lasts for a short time after taking the pill. However once a person is on Niacin for a week or so the flush reaction almost disappears.
To start taking Niacin, start out with a small dose, say 25 milligrams at a time. then gradgually build up the amount that you take.
Presently I take 500 to 1000 milligrams 3 times a day.
When I first started I worked up to 4000 mil per day.
I had been on Norvast for high blood pressure but it appears that Niacin also reduced my blood pressureto the point that my Dr. took me off Norvast and suggested that I reduce my Niacin intake to 3000 Mil per day.
Finally, may I suggest that you do a internet search on Niacin. There is lots of good info there.
