I have a friend that wants to know if there are any alternatives to heparin. She keeps having miscarriages. The only time she was able to carry a pregnancy to term was when she was on heparin. However, her doctors seem to think it is unrelated and will not put her back on heparin.

She believes it was the heparin that allowed her to have her first child. She has had many, many miscarriages. I believe the number is over 25 at least. When she was taking the heparin, she was able to not abort. I don't know if is a coincidence or not.

Yes, there are alternatives that are natural. She should check with a naturopath or her nearest good health foods store that sells herbs and suppliments.

She also needs to make sure she is not eating unhealthy and exercising and if she is over weight, she needs to lose the extra weight.

i guess i dont understand your question... is it

1. she is on heparin and the doctors wont let her get pregnant?

or

2. she thinks heparin is what allowed her to carry her pregnancy to term?
-----
1. to my knowledge heparin is one of the safest anticoagulants for pregnancy, though it does carry a lot of risks. listen to her doctors.

2. as her docs said, heparin probably didnt help her carry her pregnancy to term, it was probably just a coincidence. "natural" doesnt not mean "good for you" or "safe." natural remedies are no more natural to your body than stuff from a lab. heparin is a natural product (comes from filtered cow blood), and so is warfarin, another powerful prescription anticoagulant (which origininally came from a certain type of clover). both are dangerous and powerful drugs if they arent dosed and monitered carefully. dont mess with natural alternatives w/o doctor supervision for this kind of thing, ESPECIALLY if she is trying to get pregnant. they could either not work and give her a blood clot or work too well and harm her or the baby.

she needs to talk to doctors for guidance on the matter and figure out what her options are
