Best rookie is Francisco Liriano, hes playin like an ace wit a 7-1 record 2.19 era and he has 70+ ks in 66 ip. Papelbon is great but u always have to take a dominant starter over a dominant closer as the better player. Best catcher this year is Joe Mauer hes batting .380!

If your going for Win and Loss/Strikeout, I say Francisco Liriano of the Minnesota Twins would be the best AL rookie now. However, if your going to say the best overall rookie in the AL, it would have to be Boston's closer Jonathan Papelbon. Papelbon was the top prospect in the Boston farm system and was suppose to be a starter in the near future (and still could) but I guess the Red Sox didn't have faith in Keith Foulke after one bad season, putting Papelbon "in the fire" and exceeding expectation and so much more, kinda like what Scott Kazmir is doing in Tampa Bay. Liriano kind of reminds me of how Johan Santana came up with the Twins, starting out as a reliever and was thrust into the rotation without any problems. The difference was that Santana was giving a starting spot a year after he finish the season in middle relief while Liriano was thrust into the rotation after a couple of game in relief due to a bad starting rotation.

My pick for best catcher right now has to be Joe Mauer of Minnsesota. He was suppose to hit for power, but his skill in hitting and getting on base makes him more valuable now than last season. Victor Martinez is going to be a good catcher for years to come but Mauer is the best catcher right now.

lets say jonathan pappelbon from the boston red sox as best rookie, with a 0.24 ERA, and Jason Veritek is the best catcher also for the boston red sox

Papelbon is the best rookie, and I'll give honorable mention to Liriano and Mely Cabrerea.
