Hatred motivates them both, ignorance and arrogance causes their motivation, and narrow-minded bigotry underlies their ignorance and arrogance.

Both are brutal and cruel. Physical violence is more obviously harmful and dangerous. The "Christian" who does this, by the way, is not really true to his or her faith - and may be considered a cultist depending on which denomination is involved.

There isn't much difference at all. Hatred and intolerance are hatred and intolerance no matter who does it or the reason for doing it. Intent means nothing its the action that counts, whether you are doing it for religious reasons or just to be hateful it is the same exact thing. Every time someone does it they just put themselves in the same league as the KKK, Fred Phelps, Hitler, etc. They preached or still preach the same exact things. Most of them do it from a biblical perspective themselves, to justify their actions.

Plus, verbal abuse is actually worse than the physical. Physical can heal fairly quickly but the effects of verbal can linger for years.

when a skin bashes someone, there's bound to be bruises and possibly blood (especially if there is curbstomping going on), and when a christian verbally bashes a gay there's no blood, but it probably feels the same, because it's taken to heart...

They are both inexcusable. I suppose something could be said for an attempt to save another being from what you believe will be eternal damnation, but that is so misguided and intrusive that it comes close in my mind to bruises. So maybe physical bashing is worse, but they're both disgraceful.

My point of view is that there's virtually no difference except that the "Christians" claim to be less violent.

Well, physical violence causes real physical damage so it's arguable that that's worse.

Morally, however, both are wrong in the eyes of God.
