Because a wide recognition brings easier life in some cultures.

Some do not like ignorance (where clear relation between cause and effect exists), but I would not call that need to overpower.

Some just had problems with overpower of others being young and such behaviour helps them to feel more safe.

Maybe at one point in thier life they had no control over what happened to them or someone else took control over them and that caused them pain ( either physically or emotionally ) . They don't want to repeat such an experience , so they over power others before they get controled again.

But then again, it could just be insecurity and not wanting to lose what you have, so you think having power will keep what you have and maybe give you more. Or not believing that you will have what you have if you didn't have control. * shrug *

Also, that person could have always been in power , and enjoyed being in control , feeling that role of leadership and such.
