First of all, you shouldn't be using KaZaA. There are too many problems with it, legally and technically.
I've never used KaZaA so I cannot help you with that part.
However, with LimeWire, you can fine tune and alter some settings. Here are some tips:

1. Ensure that LimeWire is actually connecting. Try disabling firewalls and other security software. If it works, open up a port for LimeWire in your software. LimeWire should be able to act as a server/client, which means it requires outbound and inbound connections.

2. Update your software. The latest version (at time of writing) is 4.12.3.

3. If you see the "connection indicators" at the status bar of LimeWire, make sure 4 or 5 bars are green before searching and downloading.

4. If LimeWire detects a firewall, ensure that LimeWire is still able to connect.

5. If you find multiple copies of the files, download the one with most sources.

6. In the Options section, do the following:
- Disable UltraPeer capabilities for now.
- Do not enable Out-Of-Band searching
- Choose the correct speed
- In Download speed, choose an appropriate speed. Try 20 kbps for now.
- In Upload speed, move the slider to the extreme left.
- Do not allow Partial sharing.
- Uploads per person and max upload slots should be 0 for now.
- Display the Connection/firewall/bandwidth indicator to monitor connect progress

7. Download 3-4 star files with Cable/DSL or T1 connections. If the file size is too unreasonable, mark it junk and don't download it.

8. NEVER download copyrighted files without permission!

Also, your computer should be virus and spyware free. That is all the tips I can give you. Hope it works.
