I'm moving right now and I am leaving most of the junk. But I'm gonna take it outside to the dumpster. Most of this stuff I had while I was married. Then I moved here 2 years ago. Now I want to not have reminders of that jerk around so I'm pretty much starting from scratch. It'll be pretty minimalist but that's ok. Moving sucks.

Not unless you are a millionaire and can afford to buy it all over again. Moving is the pits . . .believe me I know. I have moved at least a half a dozen times. Best way is to get started. Think about where you are moving to and how and what you will need there. Start packing the non-essentials first, label EVERYTHING in boxes and then label which room it is to go in. I wish you luck but I don't envy you. Just remember moving is more than a step in a new path and direction!

I am also in the process of moving, and I just had a yard sale to try and get rid of some of the things I hadn't used or needed in at least a year. What didn't sell at the yard sale, the Salvation Army hauled off in one of their trucks. It feels great to get rid of all that stuff, and I have much less to pack as a result. So why not donate what you don't want or aren't using anymore? Or yard sale, if you have time. If it's things you don't want or need, you won't be replacing them later on. Good luck with your move!

It depends how far you are moving away. Sometimes selling your furniture before you leave means you can save money on the move. Judging by your name sounds like a good move for you. We moved from chicago to Florida by selling our stuff first. Ten years later we moved back to Chicago and brought back our furniture in a you-haul-it.Compare your costs of money and energy.

Take the stuff you need, leave the ones you don't want to use behind.

Sure. If you can afford the cost of repacing everything and the cost of any potential dumping fees for leaving everything..go for it!

If you leave your stuff they will charge you a high rate for disposing of it. Take it or get rid of it yourself.
