Not really, not in the same way they were thought of back then. The wizards in fictional stories aren't real. A scientist or engineer may be considered Wizards. The closest thing to a real wizard would be the modern day Brujo in Mexico or the Shaman in India, Africa and South America. I wouldn't mess with them.
Also, you must consider the ones, like the Dali Lhama, who can use their Chi in extraordinary ways.

I have a friend who says that there is no difference between magic and sufficiently advanced technology.
I can talk to people thousands of miles away. I can turn on my TV from across the room by flicking my "wand" (remote). I can cook food in three minutes. I can fly.
Magic is all around us. If there is magic, then there are wizards.
In fact, I have an install wizard on my computer right now.
But perhaps you mean the Harry Potter kind of wizard? They never existed.
