If you are editing a song?

Say its album was released in 2001 but the actual song hit the charts in 2002. When editing a library, then what year date would you put down?
I think Michael Jackson's 'Billie Jean' from the album 'Thriller' has an example of this.

Well if someone was looking for a song and knew it was released in 2001 they would look for it in 2001 i'd go time it was released.

i would put the date of the album release
