OK so I've been trying to bulk up for about a year to no avail (weight training and diet modification all suggested by a trainer), I've put on about 3lbs over twelve whole months.
So I've been thinking....at the moment I am at University, leaving to go home in 3 weeks.
So how about I scrap the exercise for these last three weeks and basically spend my time eating as much as I can, purely to put on weight.
THEN, get back home in July and start the weights again at the local gym, all the while eating literally as much as I can without making myself ill.
Would this initial all food/no exercise 3 weeks give me a starting boost?
Cheers!

kinda stinks, but theres not usually a lot you can do to change your body's metabolism. i'd recommend lifting a lot more weight in shorter spurts. the whole food thing never seemed to change my body type much. i can eat whatever, and i'll fluctuate withing 10 lbs or so, but i never lose much more or gain much more than that, UNLESS i start lifting more weight, and to not burn out, i do way fewer reps. you can still do more reps with less weight too, to keep your cut.
but, at least you're one of those ppl that cant GAIN weight, rather than one of those ppl that cant LOSE weight. thats gotta be a lot harder to deal with.

Bulking up is extremely different from other forms of excercise. Bulking up normally means you want to add muscle mass. Putting on weight through eating will result in fat and the more you gain, the harder you'll have to train to obtain muscle mass.
Do some light excercices, push-ups, chin-ups, some free weight excercises on campus. They'll help you a lot more than just pure eating.

Yes, we all need rest, I do thinks a soft approach to working out is o.k. for you body. Yoga- restorative and walking, You need to find out what your body fat % is. Did anyone tell you to do big weights with your legs, are you eating 6x a day about 400 Cal's. Do you know your b/p and pulse (resting and max) Long car-do will keep you very slim, but can be good for the head., You may want to read the "body for life plan" as a working out plan, it is hard but saves time and you can get real strong. Drink 30 grams of protein power after lifting and before bed. Do not over over do It your body is made to live 80+ years, eat, sleep, smile, be happy, and keep the body tuned up to play hard. So what is your sport, (2 Min's to type)

Well, I guess you've already tried it, but perhaps lift more weight and do less reps?
I have a fast metabolism and whatever I eat, I don't gain weight - YET - I have been lifting weights for 2 months and am definitely now noticing a difference in the size of my upper arms...

Eating too much may help you gain weight, but the damage it will do is not worth it.
Just do good exercise and eat a proper diet.
