That's a good question, and there has been debate over whether to require term limits for Congress. The President didn't used to have term limits until after FDR. In favor of no term limits, experience is very useful and congressmen can be ousted during election periods. On the other hand, it's easier for an incumbent to win. The President has A LOT more power in a single person than a single congressman does, and that's probably the main reason the Presidency was given term limits already and Congress was not.

The term limit on the office of President was set by an amendment to the Constitution. If the country wants term limits for other offices, we could pass a similar amenement. Unfortunately Congress would get to vote on that....... So seeing how self-serving members of Congress are these days, that would not seem likely.

Because, The tradition of two term presidencies was started by George Washington. He thought that people should all be given a chance, and one person shouldnt "hog" the office. Now it is the law that there can only be two terms.
Congress does not have term limits because there are many manyyy more seats in office than the presidential office. More seats means more opprunities to become a seat-taker.

Up until Franklin Roosevelt, the President did not have term limits. After FDR got re-elected so many times, and screwed the country up so badly, it was desided to limit how much damage a Demorat can do, by limiting how long we'd have to put up with one. Unfortunately the law has to apply to Republican presidents too.

America was founded by revolution from a monarchy. When they created the constitution they feared the President would be a "King" and so they instituted a term limit for him to insure no American monarchy ever existed.

Mr. Washington left the office after two terms, and every President afterwards thought it made sense, and did the same. Except for Rosevelt, who was in office for four terms. After he got out, the constitution was ammended to allow for two terms.
Practically, its an effective way of preventing Monarchy/Dictatorships-for-life

Simple. Because you need experience but not always the same man at the top.
It is to prevent rusty governing. It has advantages and drawbacks because of this but generally it increase the peoples belief in the stability of government.
This is the most important thing in politics. People don't have to believe you..all the time, they must just believe that government will be stable.
