I definitely sometimes feel that way. To go somewhere else and make a new beginning. To me it sounds appealing but, like you, I know realistically it can't happen. But I still think about it.

Of course you can. I thought about doing it for a couple of years, once. The problem is this, if youre seriously thinking about taking off and starting over, theres probably a good reason, thus making it so that if you do disappear, there is no coming back. If you dont want anyone to find you, its a completely different ball game. In any event, heres what to do if you really want to take off and never be found:
1. Save up some cash/Liquidate all of your belongs, save for your house and car.
2. After good amount of cash is saved up, produce/acquire two separate identities.
3. Sell your car to the 1st fake identity and make the transfered address somewhere about 200 miles opposite the way your heading.(For example, say you lived in Cleveland, OH and you want to take off to California. Sell your car to you first fake ID who happens to live in Pittsburgh....)
4. Cash out any credit cards and run like hell. Buses are typically your best bet, that is unless you've purchased a new vehicle under your 2nd assumed name.
5. Have fun and enjoy it this time, starting over again and again can be a real pain in the a$$.

I have learned from expirence that running away never EVER helps, unless you are in a situation of abuse, ect. and then I do not feel it would be running away but saving yourself.
From my expirence, and about 12 moves later, I have ended up back where I started. I too fantazise about what it would be life to leave the usless husband and the children I adore, that are so ungreatul, and to just go and be me.
But when I reflect, I know that the damage I would do and the guilt I would carry would overshadow the benefit of leaving.
Fantasies are just that enjoy, but dont act.

My life is filled with responsibilities and I get mentally and physically exhausted. When I can't handle it, I tell everyone that I'm going on a mystery trip. I hop in my car, destination unknown, pick a direction and drive. It doesn't have to be far, (last time it was a state park, 100 miles away), but I always come back feeling refreshed.
My family numbers know they can pull me back in by my leash. It's called my cell phone.

Why do you want to run away? Are you being physically abused? If so, leave and go to a shelter. Is it just you are having a down day? Things will get better. Eventually you will solve your problem, or it will become insignificant like so much of life does.
Good luck.
P.S. I don't entertain the notion of running away any longer. I love my kids too much.

Not so much run away, but definitely move to a new place and make a fresh start, yes. I'm planning that now.

It's something I did, I still keep in touch with a few people from my last home and still keep in close contact with my parents but felt the need to move away and start anew. I moved from Massachusetts down to Florida and I have not regretted the move at all.

Sure you can. Pick a spot. Plot your course. Plan your day according to money saved. Rent a truck. Go!
But I warn you: you will suddenly be a newbie. It will be like the first day of high school again. Walk with care once you get there.

I'd love to do that...
Oh wait, I am an English teacher in Japan so I already did do that.
I love to travel so I'd love to just pick up and travel as much as I can. I know it isn't a realistic dream.

When you run away from problems they tend to follow you or you find new ones. Just deal with your trouble and you will be a better, stronger person in the long run.
