I think a lot of people are curious about EVERYBODY'S everyday lives and enjoy gossip about anyone. Tabloids, magazines, and interviews with celebrities ensure that there's a lot of information about celebrities out there. I have a feeling most people would read tabloids about their next-door neighbors if their neighbors had paparazzi following their every move. :)

Wanting to get involved in a celebrity's life is a fantasy world that most of us think we'd like to live in. Celebrities as a whole are just regular people who get paid a lot of money for doing a little work. Some of them are nice as pie, some you want to smack in the head and tell them to stop being snotty. I worked for a booking agency and absolutely hated having to deal with some of them on the phone.

Celebrities are just selling tools for corportations. They keep folks watching televison so the folks will watch the commercials. Celebrities sell products because they are recognized by folks, who might buy the product. Same holds true for music, yet the music stars sell records.
