If they say it's a boy, it's quite likely that it is a boy because they could see boy parts. If they say it's a girl, there is a somewhat greater possibility of error, because they could have missed seeing something. Ultrasound is not 100% -- genetic testing is the way to know for sure. If you get a second ultrasound and they still say boy, you can at least be grateful that you have lots of appropriate clothes.

Ultrasounds can be wrong BUT usually it's that they tell you it's a girl when it's really a boy, because the baby is a certain way that they can't see the male parts and assume it's a girl, but if they've seen something that makes them conclude it's a boy, that's usually a pretty positive sign it's a boy! When they're all teenagers, you'll be happy you have three boys!

Well...unfortunatly, when the u/s tech says "boy," they are usually correct. It means they saw something (scrotum or penis). When they say, "girl," they are sometimes refering to the absence of a penis rather than actually SEEING the female "stuff" and therefore, they can be wrong. So, if they said you're having a boy, you can pretty much count on that being the gender. Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy!!
P.S. They say that during a 20 week ultrasound (which is close enough in your case), they are 98% correct regarding the gender.

Yes, they can be wrong. A friend of mine was pregnant(her daughter is 1 now) and when she was pregnant with her, the docs told her she was having a boy. She gave birth to a big ol baby girl. Some say they are always right when predicting it's a boy. I guess cuz it is easier to see the penis.
But to answer your question, yes it could be wrong but it doesn't mean it is.

well of course ultrasounds arent 100% accurate, but it is harder to confuse a boy with a girl than a girl with a boy. so you are probably having a boy. because boys actually have something there and the doctor saw it, in an ultrasound that says its a girl, it could be a little boy and the "stuff" is hiding. for your sake i wish for you to have a girl, but i think that you are gonna have a boy.

18/19 weeks is a little early to know for sure, so what your tech saw could have been the umbilical cord. 30 weeks is a better time to check and it be more accurate. Most of the time the wrong choices are when they say it's a girl and it turns out to be a boy like my little one.

it could happen but the chances are low, usually if they say it's a boy it's a boy but if they say it's a girl it could be a boy. That's when they are usually wrong if they are wrong. But if it's healthy that's what should matter. But if you're worried you can always get a 3d ultrasound that's really accute cuz you can actually see the area for your own eyes.

Doctors are people too, and yes they can be wrong...However with todays tecnology they still have a small chance of being wrong, However keep in mind that threw-out your pregnancy you will be having ultrasounds and the bigger the baby gets the easier it will be to reasure you of the babys sex.
My youngest played with himself while he was inside me and the doctor got a side view....I even got the ultrasound picture to show off when he gets older..It will be a good laugh for my household.

I have two boys and am expecting my 3rd in Sept. Most of the time if they say it's a boy they are right. My experience is that if they say it's a girl, they could be wrong. They told me my first son was a girl..LOL. U/S tech said boys are easier to see than girls. Hope that helps.

I believe that sex prediction on an ultrasound is something like 90% accurate. I do, however, know somebody that experienced a mistake.
In general, if they tell you that it is a girl they are correct almost every time. If they tell you it is a boy, they have a greater chance of being wrong.
