For the last time, I'm not concerned or disturbed. I carry a knife with me everywhere. There are no laws in my against a non-concealed weapon and me and my friends are really into LARPing and historical reenactment. I just tend to get really weird looks when I have a sword on me.

I would smile and give you plenty of room on the sidewalk. I think the neighborhood cops might take exception to it, though. :)

Not the same thing dude.
A pocket knife is a small tool used by normal people everyday in nearly every situation. A sword is an offensive weapon or a decoration.

Apples and oranges.

Are you really upset by pocket knives?
I can't imagine that. There are lots of things to be frightened of in life but this shouldn't be even close to the top of a list! Unless you have some knowledge I don't?

ADDITIONAL:
I knew a man once who carried a sword. One evening he decided to see what it could do and chopped on a few pedestrians. You will continue to get "weird" looks from people if you carry it in public. It is a weapon! And we are generally a self-protective species.
I would be leery of a man walking around town with a baseball bat UNLESS he was wearing a baseball uniform. Are you wearing a period costume that the sword would be a part of? I would think you would get far less weird looks if that were the case. Then your weapon would have a context and not seem as threatening.

Awkward to carry and less versatile than a pocket knife, no? :-))

As others have said, pocket knives are tools. Swords are weapons. There is a difference....

No one could accuse you of "carrying a concealed weapon," however.

While they both have the potential to make you bleed. A pocket knife is a useful tool. My father carries one all the time and it is always useful.

You must have a little penis if you need to go that big to feel manly. Men with little pocket knifes have all the packaging they need :)
