It is Summer time. I always had a budget so here are my Summer parties that I did:
Water fun. Use a slip and slide. Have water balloons, small water guns as a party favor. Just make sure you add on the invites it is a water fun party so they come in swim suites and water safe shoes. Have extra towels on hand.

something outdoor would be good as it's summer, my nephew turned 5 not long ago and my sister just let the kids go wild in the garden - games and food and stuff, then she hired a clown who was really good. the clown stayed for an hour and all the kids got balloon animals and stuff. she also did heaps of really cool kids' food: like jell-o orange quarters and stuff.

honestly, 5 year olds are pretty happy just running round being kids. make sure you've got plenty of balls and skipping ropes and bats and stuff on hand and they'll take care of themselves.

When my son was 5, I took him to McDonalds. Back then they charged something like $15 dollars for a party of 10. They do everything. We played games etc....
