A pocket knife is one thing, a butterfly blade etc. is a WEAPON, and someone intends to do something when they carry something like that, also. For some people, a pocketknife is like a security blanket, for some people it's a macho thing, for others, it's just a tool. If you want a GOOD pocketknife, go look on the web for the different manufacturers, and most would recommend that you get one that's a multi-tool, not just a pocket knife. Some of those are really good high-quality items, and they'll set you back about 70 bucks, too, and most have a belt-case. If you've ever had to deal with plastic packaging or tape or rope, you know that something like that is pretty important to have along...if you've got somebody walking around with a bayonet in their pants, that's kind of like an 'I'm armed and dangerous' kind of attitude, steer clear of em...

Sometimes, depending on where you live, carrying a pocket knife could mean the matter of life or death! People are crazy now a days, sometimes you need that protection. You think a pocket knife is bad , I once knew someone who had a razor under there tongue at all times! Now that's bad!

peoples answers really crack me up.it depends on why you carry one.i'm probably a little older than most of you and grew up in the country where you were pretty much un prepared for a days work if you did not have a knife.if you grew up in the deep south or out west or the midwest in the 60s you normally had a pocket knife.guess nobody remembers how to carve or whittle on a piece of wood anymore

fake. I did for a protracted time until somebody advised me that i'm safer with no knife in my pocket as though I unquestionably have a knife in my hand the attacker could desire to unquestionably conquer me besides yet might then have a weapon. So my purely weapon is prayer and have faith.

Every guy in my family, including my husband, carry pocket knives. They're useful tools. Even I carry one, in my purse...ya never know when you might need it. Most of the pocket knives we carry are the Swiss Army ones, where it has everything on it!!

Well, my husband and my step father both carry pocket knives and they both do so because they use them for work. Come to think of it, they are the only two people I know who do carry one. I don't think anything about them, just that they are hard workers.

I think everyone I know carries a pocketknife, including me. They are very handy for any number of things. I don't get to use mine daily, but I know many who do.
Some are laborers. Their knives tend to be bone handled with 3 blades. Or techy colored metal with one very sharp and usefull lock blade.
Some are white collar exec types and their knives tend to be gold handled small jobs meant mostly for cleaning their fingernails.

I used to keep a Swiss Army knife in my purse all the time.

It came in handy more than you might think.

Other people always wanted to use it or borrow it, too.

I stopped when all the metal detectors at public buildings and airports came into use.
