I need some more details of your problem. What and when did it exactly lose its optimum performance?
The rundown of common problems are:
Viruses, spam, spyware, malware, etc etc...
Low Free hard disk space. Windows uses the hard disk to store swap files which is an extension of your ram.
Some or many background applications running. This includes your antivirus and anti spyware programs. With a special importance on antiviruses as they will severely lower your disk accessing capacity.
Try to lower the visual settings if you are using windows xp. The visuals eat up both processing and ram capacity.
Trim down your programs, too many unused programs further fragments the drive.
Huge files like whole movies and zip files in excess of 500mb can slow your disk access as well.
And the best answer is: Upgrade, upgrade, upgrade...
Concentrate on Processing and ram... video and all other pluses should only come second.

The problem is that you only have 192Mb of RAM. RAM is the "thinking space" your PC uses in real time to do stuff. If you try to do anything that takes more than 192M your PC has to continually transfer its "thoughts" to the hard drive as temp files, then read them back as space becomes available.
you need 512Mb or more, but RAM is dirt cheap these days. Go to compaq's website and buy some matching RAM.
good luck!

You've probably got a virus(s) on your system. Go to Start, and run msconfig. This will bring up your start up menu - deselect everything in the services and startup tabs - restart your PC - if it works properly, then you do have a virus. Emil if if you do and want to get rid of them.
