The sperm and egg are essential for animal reproduction. Eggs were around when fish swam the vast primeval oceans. When the amphibians made an attempt to live solely on land they were not too successful since they had to go back to the water to reproduce beacuse their eggs had no hard shells. This limited their range in colonizing the land. As you can see there was an egg present at this time, but not the hard shelled egg of reptiles and birds. This type of egg is called the amniote egg. With its evolution the reptiles were afforded a means of conquering the land. Fossil evidence shows that the lizards were here beforee the birds. So it is safe to say the egg came befor the chicken. One would have to search for fossil evidence as to when the chicken first appeared, but they probably appeared later on in the evolutionary line of birds.

Technically, there is no proof that the egg came before the chicken.
What if the ancestors of the chickens actually gave birth and chickens form before they suddenly decided to lay eggs?
(Example, mammals used to lay eggs, but ended up giving birth, the platypus still continue to lay eggs)
What if the theory of evolution is false and the chicken was actually created from a cross breed of two weird organisms?
(Example, small percentage of mules are actually fertile)
The answer to the question: We will never know.

Morphologically the Egg, because without a mutation in the egg you could not have a chicken.
Note: that chickens are related to reptiles morphologically and so this means that there must have been an egg layed by some reptile that had a mutation and resulted in a chicken.

As a result of mutation chicken formed, another thing is that chicken resembles reptiles family so, that any species belongs to reptiles may lay that eggs, since during the course of evolution as result of mutation in the egg, the new species chicken leads to form.
so, EGG is the one who came first.
