Men are afraid that a woman would do a better job. You know they have sensitive egos.

Oh, yes and way past time! A woman will become President eventually and we will find out it's lots less scary than we were led to believe it would be. There's some sort of myth that a female president wouldn't be as "tough" as a man with the military, to our enemies and detractors around the world, etc. Women in public view (both Democrats and Republicans) who I think would make or would have made fine Presidents: Betty Ford, Madeliene Albright, Elizabeth Dole, Hilary Clinton (yes, I know she'll never be president because the rabid right hates her so much, but she's smart, savvy and tough; she'd be a good one), Diane Feinstein, Anne Richards. Condoleeza Rice is a special case: she has the chops for it, but publicly states she's not interested in the job. You know, I agree with her...why would anyone want to do this?

Because the US is full chauvinistic (mostly) white Republican idiots. Personally I'd love to have a female president, that would be so cool. I think the Democrats might not be so against a female president, but there are more Republicans than Democrats, at the moment anyway.

It has been time for people to be open minded on the subject. A woman hasn't run for president, therefor, the couldn't be a woman president yet. If one were to, I think by now the problem would for the man running against her, because so many people would vote for the woman because "it's about time" and they wouldn't even necissarily agree with her. I think that if a woman who could fund her campaign and had some good views were to run, she'd get elected, whether or not it were best for our country. How good do you think this is?

Well, up until the 60's women were treated as second class citizens. It's only been a recent phenomena in American and world history, that women have been treated with equality they are due.
In time, the US will elect a woman to the presidency if they choose to.
At present, I can't see that happening with the permanent war on terrorism. We gotta find a way to live with that, keep our freedoms and liberties intact, and then worry about being politically correct.

I think it's because the US is a patriarchal society that has successfully convinced its women that they shouldn't trust a woman as a political leader. If the women of the US would form a voting bloc, they could take over!
It is difinitely time to replace the testosterone-laden leadership of the US!

Because the powers that be are men. I would vote for a woman but no just any woman, say like Hillary Clinton. The fact that she stayed with Bill is the reason I don't like her. She prositituted herself for political gain, not to say probably some men haven't done the same, I just didn't see it with my own eyes. I would vote for a woman who can stand on her own, say like Ann Richards.

Very complex question...so I'll just list a few ideas.
Yes, I think it is time.
Many developing nations take their cues on human rights/how to treat women based on American precendents. A female president would show them that we respect women enough to elect them to the highest offices.
As for why there hasn't been one:
Western women have and/or do suffer from lower wages,
disenfranchisement (not being able to vote),
primary responsibility for children/aging parents (that prevents them from getting out to vote/running campaigns, etc.),
widespread gender prejudice here and abroad,
lack of precedent (puts more pressure on female candidates, makes for problems with protocal when dealing with foreign nations),
lack of support from both male and female constituents (ideals about women that suppose their "natural" sphere is the home, fear about what the duties of a "first husband" would be),
lack of recognition of their sex/female accomplishments in history books in national monuments and in the buildings of Congress,
lack of a strong female base in other elected positions (far fewer women in Congress than men means female cadidates get less lobbying time and fewer campaign donations)
etc.
All of these problems make it harder for a woman to mount a campaign, to pass the primaries, to get elected, to be seen as performing her duties (when people have doubts about whether her country or her family should/will be her primary concern), etc.
Get over it America!
Do the research on candidates, vote for the person who you think could do the best job or make the biggest difference in an increasingly corrupt system (a woman would certainly shake things up!), teach your daughters to be active participants in their communities and that they really could be Senators or President one day, educate yourself on gender roles and question traditional values/ideas about the functions of men and women, don't rule a candidate out purely because of sex or race or religion or sexual orientation or physical disability unless you consider yourself to be a Nazi, encourage your neighbors to vote and share your research on elections with them, make your nation a better place.

I think its because people always viewed men as being better than women.
I think in our times that opinion is being reversed and soon a women prez will be the norm.

we americans are not ready to fully believe in the true equality of women and feel that we would be debasing ourselves by allowing that to happen when in fact we could lead the way into a better and equal future for all by doing so.
