We've gotten so obsessed with happiness as a state of being ... one without worries or stress or bad moods or money problems, etc. But that's life, no matter what state of mind you may be in at any given moment. You will always worry about something, stress about the idiots at work, see some jerk with more whatever than you have. Happiness is a process. It's an approach. It's when you (as the other answerers have so eloquently stated) consciously choose to see and dwell upon the joy in your life, and most importantly, to grow and spread that joy to the other people in your world. If you wait for all the undesireable factors in your life to abate, and define that as happiness, you will die unhappy. If you let go of destructive and self-destructive thoughts, and think of it as more of an attitude with which you approach ALL the elements in your life, you will find (almost serendipitously) that you are truly happy. And you will have no sense of fear of losing that buzz. Nothing or no one can take it from you.
I don't mean to suggest that it's easy. It's a choice I have to make several times every day, and it's really hard not to give in to self-pity and doubt. But if you want it badly enough, if your sanity and perhaps even your life depend upon it, you will do it.
We humans vastly underestimate ourselves.

That is entirely up to you. Third world children living in the worst squalor imaginable can be happy as larks, while multimillionaires living in the lap of luxury may require dope to crack a smile.
The secret to happiness is in appreciating the moment. Forget about tomorrow, or even "this afternoon" or even "next" ... just take sock of the now, and you may find it to be pretty terrific, all by itself.
Let's see, "Breathing - check, Not Hungry - check, Not Injured - check, Not Being Hunted - check, Warm - check, Dry - check ..."
Yep, I'm happy!
Now you try it.

The only time you will be happy is the time when you decide to be happy. It's a choice. You choose to be happy.

You could be happy right this minute if you ask yourself the three following questions and act on it:
What things would do if you weren't concerned by what other people think?
What matters to you?
What works for you?

it depends: I´ll be happy when I can support myself without needing my husband to do so.
You need to think on what really makes you happy, do not get depress and let life work on its own...sooner or later it will happen...
