When you download a font, it goes to a particular folder - you need to move these files to the correct folder for your fonts for eg C:\Windows\fonts.

Fonts are stored in the Windows directory in the directory called Fonts. If you are able to see them in some programs but not others that don't support certain kinds of formatting. You can select different fonts to some degree in Notepad by clicking on the Format tab and selecting the size and style that you want. Notepad is a very generic text editor and will not allow for the different formatting styles and types of Microsoft Word. Wordpad, which is the step above Notepad has some more options but is still a free generic version of a text editor. Both Notepad and Wordpad can be found in default installations of Windows.

be careful using those FREE FONT sites, they will only add crap to your computer that you dont need.....spy/add/nagware....ect.
I would get that crap off yoru computer with a spyware removal tool like lavasoft ad/aware SE that is after you uninstall that garbage, use ccleaner to do that (all these a freeware).
Then go to wincustomize.com and there you will find oodles of fonts, icons, cursurs, themes, wallpaper....ect..... created by talented up and comers. Most are in zip files and free!
I just pic a empty file and shove as many as my wrist will let me download in it.
Then afterwards i unzip all, find the ones I like and copy them to the system font folder, with there other home not being lost.
Also, sometimes i notice after unzipping some I rightclick it and got to propertys and see a blocked program button which I uncheck and apply, i do not know if I need to do this but it makes it easier to use.
