Your mother is right.
Take some pride in your appearance.
You should listen to what your mother says and maybe you'll learn something... she's probably been around alot longer than you... if it wasn't for her, you'd just be a stain on her panties, so try listening to her and following her advise. If she gives you BAD advise, then you'll have to make a decision... how do you know if it's "bad" advise? If she tells you to have sex with anyone you want, or do drugs, or steal, or wear scruffy pants... it's bad advise... so grow up and let her help you become a mature member of society.

Try offering this deal to your Mom:

If you make an effort to dress nicely when it is important to your Mom (at church, if you go, when her friends are coming over, when you are going to visit relatives or to family functions, etc), see if she will then let you wear your scruffy clothes when you are going out with your friends who dress in a similar fashion.

Sometimes, yes; sometimes, no.

I do agree with the previous answer that said something like scruffy or not, your clothes should be CLEAN.

Hope this helps!

Ask your Mom to think back wasn't there things in her life that either had some sort of memories with it or was just really comfortable. My husband had a pair of shorts that he loved to wear everyday at home they just felt good to him, they were no more than a rag its not that some one is young its just something that hits some people im 55 tell mom to let it go some day you will throw the pants away on your own if not what does it hurt.

Depends on what scruffy means. If it's a pair of ripped jeans, you can negotiate with your mom. If they're caked in dirt, she's right.

Believe it or not, mum has your best interests at heart. If you go along with her now, you'll have a better relationship with her later. Try to see her side of the picture. Try to remember that she used to be your age once. She's learned a lot and is trying to do what is right for you.
