Today's TV channels are showing one of these listed or Reality shows; why?

there have always been both, but usually the success of one show can cause a trend to start (i.e. survivor and mtv's real world sort of started reality t.v.) ER and NYPD Blue may haveinfluenced the last decade of t.v. CSI has many clones now too......

I think the answer to that one is simple. the first few like ER, LA Law, Hill Street Blues, etc. were so successful that the new shows just rode the wave instead of trying to come up with something new and different.

i would rather watch those than the reality tv.
