In a way, "The Magnificent Seven IS a remake - of "The Seven Samurai", filmed in 1953 and directed by Akira Kurosawa. I saw it recently (with subtitles), and, while it IS good, it does drag on a bit at 208 minutes.
But to remake "The Magnificent Seven" would be a waste of time; no one could improve on, or even match, the original version.

Of the 7 only Robert Vaughn surviving.
I don't think they should re-make it. But if they did, and knowing Hollywood. I should think the cast would be something like this: -
Chris Adams -Vin Diesel ...
Vin -Johnny Depp ....
Bernardo O'Reilly -Tom Cruise....
Lee -Hugh Jackman ....
Chico -Keira Knightley....
Britt-Leonardo Dicaprio....
Harry Luck-Any popular female actor at the time....
They'd definitely try and cram Tom Cruise in to it, even if he played a horse.

In 1998, it became a TV series with Eric Close, Ron Perlman and Robert Vaughn playing the judge. I think it lasted one season.
