Retrieval is a much better revision method than rote learing. If you are at university and still writing things over and over or repeating them to yourself then you might as well leave now. It is inefficient in terms of time and in terms of the volume of information that you will retain. Read through something then put it to one side and attempt to recall what you have just read. This retrieval of information will strengthen it in memory and increase the likelihood of you remembering it later (called the retrieval practice effect). Attempt to elaborate on any recalled points (try to recall everything that you know about a point). Understand what you are learning, and attempt to integrate new information with what you have already learned. This leads to rich networks of knowledge that are more immune to forgetting.
Also you need to know what the format of the exam is. Multiple choice is about being able to recognise right and wrong options, and the ability to you a method of elimination. Essays require different skills: you have to actually answer the question, you cannot just list everything that you know on a topic. Practicing writing essay answers before the exam is a good strategy. If you don't have time for that then composing mock essay structures can be a good way to inter-relate information so that recall of one item cues another related item

Sleep well, don't cram or try to study all night before exam. Study 30 minutes at a time, take a 5 minute total break and then get back to what you are studying. Try to eat well before exam but don't over do it since the blood you need in your brain will not be there, it will be digesting all the food. If you know what is brain food such as fruits, veggies and fish or chicken then that is what you should have. Don't abuse sugar because it is a depressant. It makes you feel good for a little bit but then it makes you feel tired and moody. If you took notes and organized them well, you will do well in your test. Otherwise you will need to outline your chapters that are included in the test and try to make your own questions for the test based on what your teacher presented in class. Good Luck

Well what i do is, study a week before an exam, or atleast 3days.
Study the toughest topics first, and since I have a week i do study groups of 3 or 2 people. It helps. Then i cover the easy topics. Then a day before the exam, i solve previous question past papers.
It works fine for me.

Everyone has a different learning style, but this works for most people.
Buy 20 or 30 plain white postcards. With brightly coloured pens, summarise each of your topics on one side of the postcards.
Then stick the postcards up all over your home (carefully with blu tac) You will unconsciously take in what you have to learn.
This can be quite fun too!!!!!
If all else fails, try reading out loud into a recorder an play it back before you go to sleep.

Crack open a book and start reading about the material. Copy it over to a sheet of paper and repeat it to yourself....like five times. Do this till you understand what you must know.
