really, in my honest opinion it kinda sounds stupid in pop haha
but in all seriousness, baby prolly stems from the love that one feels toward...well....an actual baby, the attachment one forms with a child. same thing as why do guys call thier girl chick(young chicken) lil mama? sweetheart? and same question can go with women, when they call they man they boy n what not.....stuff like that is just reducing the item to a younger form, a purer form of love....but nothing is pure about pop heh

It is just part of what evolved in the culture. Just like the poeple in the UK call females Love and friends Mate.
