And also of what Irish people think about it because I can say on behalf of just about the whole Republic of Ireland that WE DON'T CARE about it and are not at all racist towards British people or Protestants.
Sinn Fein also has a very low presence in our politics.

I completely agree, it has been proven in many surveys that the VAST MAJORITY of Republicans do not care.
Our news reports very little on the North.
I think it is to do with ireland's wealth because if you are rich then what is the point of dying for independence if everyone was already happy? It would be pointless- you can see that any state that ever fought for independence had its people being treated badly, etc.
And yes, we are not racist or bigoted- both Catholics and Protestants in the North are simply far too bitter for my liking.
Just leave things they way they are- were happy enough.

Nice of a certain answerer to your question happens to pick up on what the Heavy handed Protestants were doing to the poor beleaguered Catholics. Even people who know **** all about Northern Ireland have to try and express their Bigoted opinion. According to some in the last 30 years the Catholics have done nothing wrong and its all been the Protestants fault. I am British and i live in Northern Ireland. And i thinks its a great place to be.
And the Poster of the Question is saying " I can say on behalf of just about the Whole Republic of Ireland that we don't care"
A couple of answers for you.
Why should you care the Vast majority of the troubles were in the 6 Counties of Northern Ireland. Not in the Republic of Ireland.
Your not at all Racist. Lets just see how many people can walk around down south as we say. In northern Ireland tops, or the Northern Ireland flag stuck to a bag or worn as a badge. NONE.
Just think if all the people who say that they dint care about Northern Ireland had, Had the foresight to help close the borders to Terrorists coming from the south. and then crossing back again. Then maybe my answer would have been more understanding of your Question.

I kno that half of my family is Norn Irish, and the others from the Republic. Most people in Northern Ireland dont even care about who's what, just a few idiots from each communities. The only real place Sinn Fein ever had influence on the "Irish" was in the states where they got practically all of their money from.

Northern Ireland and the Republic are both lovely countries with lovely people, but just as in every country there are a few eejits.

My best mate is from Northern Ireland. It's funny, he's far more patriotic about England than me, a Londoner. I've been to Mayo in Eire, that was an interesting if rather chilly place. The Northern Irish accent can be a bit harsh-sounding to my soft Southern ears, but that's no reason to dis the place, and the weather never looks very good on the telly, which is.

The IRA is founded on gangsters and their desire to rob and grow rich not politics and religion.

Try working out the amount of money the IRA has amassed from robberies, drugs and American donations alone. It amounts to enough to buy and equip a private army almost as big as the British one with superior weapons. So where is it? Come to that how many ex IRA are living in utter luxury abroad?

The protestant organisations are nearly as bad and they don't have anywhere near the funding.

Violence is easy to turn on and far more difficult to turn off. The gunmen are far to thick and unintelligent to realise that by giving up violence they would gain stature.

Most people I have met from both North and South, Catholic and Protestant echo your sentiments.

Thinking people the world over want peace and equality for all. Anyone who thinks killing even one innocent civilian has anything to do with this is out of his tree.

Please, please keep saying what you are loud and clear.

I really like Northern Ireland- have been there on holiday a few times. Like someone else said, it's just the British government that has the problem.

I think the majority are peace loving and don't want a murderous bunch of loonies to take control, which is why the IRA were formed to keep the British at bay!!

I joke!! It's the other way around LOL

In all honesty, I don't really know a lot about it. All we ever see is bad press on the tele about the situation- such as children not being able to walk to school because of attacks, people starting fires and coppers having to police the streets.

But chances are the English government has ballsed it up again- get Blair out.
