PCOS is very common. More than you might think. If you have conceived before with 1 live birth of your daughter then you have a very good chance to get pregnant again. First of all you need to go to your OB-GYN or doctor who diagnosed you. He/she will be able to help you with this problem. What happens in PCOS, the follicles that produce the egg get to one point and then it stops right before eruption. It has a lot to do with hormone imbalances and can also be evident in insulin resistance.

Recommendations for treatment are:
Starting on Clomid therapy and possibly metformin(Glucophage) therapy. The doctor will also probably start on prenatal vitamins. You will need to go in monthy at specific time for blood test to see if ovulation is occuring. If it is then the prescription at this time is sex. In case where woman is miscarrying early into pregnancy, then she is probably not making enough progesterone. She will need to be tested and then go progesterone therapy for first trimester. If she fails to get pregnant, then other options could be treatment with other fertility drugs (the Dilly sextuplets mother had PCOS). She would then either have eggs harvested for later implantation or just do what the Dilly's did. So many options for PCOS. Most succeed in ovulation with clomid alone or with metformin. Best of luck.

Your not alone. I have PCOS & was diagnosed back in 2001. There are alot of great website out there that have great information.

Metformin is the way to go if you are IR (Insulin Resistant) & some say a low carb diet....but I have found a 1500 calorie diet is what is working for me. You can still have your period, but that does not mean you ovulate. I for one have my period each month, but I do not ovulate. I'm on Clomid to help me ovulate & if my eggs are 20mm or bigger I am givin a trigger shot called Norval to make me ovulate within 36 hours & this has helped me become pregnant twice (both resulting in miscarriages though). With proper medical treatment & moitoring you can become pregnant. Your chances of miscarriage is higher with PCOS, but don't give up. Alot of PCOSers have had sucessful pregnancies more than once.

hi, u r not alone out there.Iam a Nurse by profession and i also have that condition. it is something that some of us unfortunate 1s are born with. it is a genetic thing thus passed on to us by someone. anyway, i think u still have a very good chance of pregnancy. see we are born with eggs. eggs and cycts are the same thing. in PCOS, these egg shells we have get hardened thus restricting the maturity of eggs, so it means for our brains that no mature egg, no period. are u getting me?often u will have delayed or no period for months in severe conditions. excess facial hair is also another sign in many women.there is possibilty that u r ovulating as this could be only the begining. no offence meant but if u r ready to start a family, pls dont delay.as the time goes it gets worse.i cant conceive naturally now and have had 2 failed IVFs as well. all the best with ur pregnancy

No you can still have a period without ovulating. If you have pcos, you really need to be having it treated. If you are insulin resistant ( common with pcos) then Metformin is the way to go. Metformin is used to regulate insulin levels in pcos and clomid ( a fertility drug) is used to produce ovulation. If you are wanting to get pregnant, then taking those drugs will help. Miscarriage rate in pcos is very high ( I have had 9 losses myself before being treated) and a good reproductive endocrinologist (RE) who is knowledgeable in pcos is a must. There is a lot of info on the web on pcos, meformin, and clomid to achieve pregnancy.

Good luck.

There is no point in worrying about if you can get pregnant or not until you start trying. If you had one healthy baby, the odds are in your favour that you can do it again!

That doesn't mean you shouldn't start treating your PCOS and the most important way you can do that is to manage your insulin respnse by managing your weight! That means, try to stay off simple carbs in favour of whole grains like oatmeal and whole wheat bread. If you eat potatoes, eat them with the skin and scrub them clean. Also, avoid sugar in favour of fresh fruits and vegetables.
