Mental Health: A branch of medicine that deals with the achievement and maintenance of psychological well-being,

Psychology: The science that deals with mental processes and behavior

In other words, a mental health professional will try to make you feel good (or at least not feel bad). Whereas a psychologist, in the pure scientific sense) just wants to study the mental processes that are making you feel bad. He doesn't necessarily care about making you feel better.

That's the scientific answer. In practice, there's LOTS of overlap between these two. Most practicing psychologists make their money fixing people's mental health, not many are purely research psychologists.

And mental health professionals need not be doctors - they can be shamans, gurus, pastors, people with an associates degree hired to work in a clinic, etc. While a psychologist has a MD or PhD in psychology.

Hope this helps!
