The Sox & the Yankees are rotating First place between them, like they do most years. Right now the Sox are playing the easiest teams in the NL East, easy wins. Next week they play the Mets, #1 in the NL East, and the Yanks play the Braves, last in same. They'll probably flop again. And don't forget Toronto, they're only 4 games behind Boston.
Some people need to learn about the game and stop jumping on the attack-the-Yankees bandwagon. Just because the Sox are 2 games ahead in June means nothing. Like Georgie said, Detroit & the White Sox (both w/better averages than Boston & the Yanks) have a commanding 11 game lead over their nearest divisional rivals, as do the Mets. That's a hard lead to overcome. Either the Yanks or Toronto could come to the top of the AL East in a week. This year Detroit & the Mets are the story, Boston/NY is a sideshow (and I'm a Yankee fan).

Two reasons: The Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees.
No one gives Toronto any credit. They've been within 3 games of the lead since the start of the 2006 season. They only just got Burnett back from the DL. If you're a Yankee or Red Sox fan and you're underestimating your northern neighbors, you may be in for a surprise. After all, the wildcard is probably coming out of the Central this year.
Secondly, no one can name a single player on the Yankees' starting roster in April that hasn't suffered some sort of injury or virus in the last 2 months. Matsui and Sheffield went down, Pavano is never coming back, Dotel is a ways off, Damon had a broken toe, Jeter had a jammed hand, A-Rod and Giambi had a stomach virus, Rivera and Farnsworth threw out their backs, and, despite all of that, they're only two games out of first.
You're dreaming if you think that the Red Sox can keep up their lead for the next four months. This isn't the 2004 band of "idiots."

Better question: How do the Yankees suck if they've won 26 World Series, 7 consecutive AL East division titles, 39 American League pennants, and have the highest winning percentage of any franchise in the history of Major League Baseball?

how can a division that has both the devil rays and the orioles in it be considered the toughest division in baseball? these two teams artificially inflate the yankees and red sox records every year.

First of all, The AL Central is the toughest division in baseball.
All you need to do is check the standings to see that the 2 best teams in basball are The White Sox & The Tigers.
So, can we please stop talking about the yankmes and dead sux?
Thank You.

cuz the red sux hav sucked their entire career as a franchise! thats y they only hav 6 ws titles. also they've only had a few good players. ruth(who they gave away), williams, pedro, cy young, clemens, lefty grove, pinky higgins, and a couple others mostly that didnt spend much of their career on the sux.
go OAKLAND A'S!!!
how about 9 ws titles in 15 al pennants, thats what i call a team. plus several of bostons few good players also spent the majority of their career with the A's

LET EVERYONE KNOW THAT THE HARDEST DIVISION IS THE NATIONAL LEAGUE CENTRAL. THERE ARE ACTUALLY 4-5 TEAMS THAT WOULD MAKE THE PLAYOFFS IN ANY OTHER DIVISION. THANK YOU.
